Prolotherapy

What is Prolotherapy?

Prolotherapy is an innovative injection-based technique that relieves pain by direct treatment of the underlying condition causing that pain. As opposed to many medical treatments that may provide only temporary gains, this safe, proven treatment offers longer-term pain relief. and more. At QHC Wellness Institute, our clinical experts can determine if you are a candidate for this healing alternative and help you regain your vibrant pain-free Life.

It is used for treatment of certain chronic musculoskeletal conditions which respond well to prolotherapy including:

Any musculoskeletal painPlantar Fasciitis
Arthritic jointsSacroiliac joints
Back and neck pain – with degenerative disc diseaseShoulder pain
Back and neck pain – without degenerative disc diseaseShoulder pain from rotator cuff injuries
Carpal TunnelSports injuries
Knee jointsSprains and strains
Osteoarthritis – hips, knees and spineTennis Elbow

How does prolotherapy help?

Prolotherapy promotes long-term, often permanent pain relief by stimulating the treatment area through the injection of an irritant which triggers the body to repair itself. Prolotherapy involves the injection of an irritant solution into a joint space, a weakened ligament, or a tendon insertion to relieve pain. Most commonly, prolotherapy solution is comprised of hyperosmolar dextrose (a sugar) combined with B12, an anesthetic (Lidocaine, Procaine or Marcaine), Dexamethasone and sometimes Kenalog. This solution acts not as a nutrient, but by encouraging the body’s natural ability to repair these tissues, promoting the growth of new ligament or tendon fibers.

How long does it take?

The total appointment time takes approximately 30 minutes, including preparation, treatment and recovery time. Performed in a medical office, prolotherapy relieves pain without the risks of surgery, without general anesthesia or hospital stays, and without a prolonged recovery period. In fact, most people return to their jobs or usual activities right after the procedure.

What are the expected results?

In the Clinical Research studies conducted, over 80 percent of study participants treated with prolotherapy reported a “good” or “excellent” result. Many of these participants report they are permanently cured enjoying the simple activities that they missed.   Many were able to return to strenuous physical activities such as soccer, mountain biking, jogging, skiing, even horseback riding. Long-term improvement for back-pain has occurred in 85%-95% of patients.  Initially, one should expect mild but temporary swelling and stiffness and, although every patient will have different results, some patients see obvious improvement after the first session. Others realize noticeable improvement on each follow-up visit. Although every patient’s plan is different, a typical treatment protocol encourages multiple sessions ranging from 3 to 6 treatments of the affected area spaced in four to six weeks intervals. The time-lapse allows additional tissue growth to restore and strengthen the affected area until the healing is complete, and you can return to normal activities without pain.

Prolozone Injections: It is a non-surgical procedure to eliminate or drastically reduce pain by utilizing the body’s natural ability to heal itself by combining the principles of Neural Therapy, Prolotherapy and Ozone Therapy. Prolozone is based on the Latin word “prolix” which means: to proliferate, regenerate and rebuild and it earned its name because the treatment involves the injection of ozone in and around ligaments where they attach to the bone to cause the regeneration of new ligament and cartilage tissue in area where they have weakened. A combination of solutions is injected into degenerative joints and pain points:

  • Procaine
  • Anti-inflammatory medications
  • Vitamins
  • Minerals
  • Proliferatives
  • Ozone / Oxygen(O2) gas
