What is the Lifestyle Protocol?

Medical Weight loss through the Lifestyle Protocol

The Lifestyle Protocol is an anti-inflammatory medical weight loss plan, supported by the most advanced integrative testing available and specifically designed to prevent or reverse the impacts of age, stress, and poor nutrition by reducing inflammation. Recommended adjustments to your Nutrition, Environment, Exercise, Sleep, Stress and Natural light can have a tremendous impact on your body’s health at a cellular level. Evidence-based, the Lifestyle Protocol is not a simple diet but a lasting call to action, empowering you to live a longer, healthier and optimal life.

Inflammation:

Inflammation is the body’s natural and healthy response to injury and illness and has many beneficial qualities. When Healthy, your body’s immune system, led by your White Blood Cells (WBC), attack invading pathogens and once eradicated shut down to allow for Fibroblasts to begin the rebuilding process. However, when inflammation is chronic, your body does not cease the attack after the invading pathogens are eliminated and a longer more subtle war begins being waged on your healthy tissues and organs.  This longer chronic condition is characterized by elevated C-reactive proteins (CRP) in the blood which is a marker for inflammation associated with several of illnesses. This pro-inflammatory state increases levels of interleukin 6 and stimulates the liver to synthesize and secrete C-reactive protein (which we test for in a CRP test). As a risk factor, this pro-inflammatory state, when considered “chronic “, is a decisive mechanism in the development of the leading cardiovascular killers and diseases including coagulation, atherosclerosis, metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, and diabetes mellitus. It is also associated with linked to the development of non-cardiovascular diseases such as psoriasis, depression, cancer, and renal diseases. In other words, the result is simple: the more obese you are the more your body creates an overabundance of inflammation reacts and creates a pro-inflammatory state. This inflammation not only affects your body’s cells but increases your risk for developing life-threatening diseases and chronic health problems. Research indicates that Chronic Inflammation is the causative factor in many cross-platform diseases including the “Four Horsemen” (the top killers of Americans): Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), Diabetes, Cancer and Alzheimer’s.

Obesity:

Obesity is an epidemic in the United States and developed nations around the world. What is Obesity though? Obesity is the accumulation of abnormal irregular or excessive fat that may interfere with the maintenance of an optimal state of health. Because this excessive fat is abnormal it creates an imbalance due to the excess of macronutrients in the adipose tissues. This excess stimulates them to release inflammatory mediators such as tumor necrosis factor α and interleukin 6, and reduces the production of adiponectin, predisposing to and creates a pro-inflammatory state and as well as oxidative stress. The pro-inflammatory state increased level of interleukin 6 stimulates the liver to synthesize and secrete C-reactive protein (which we test for in a CRP test). As a risk factor, this pro-inflammatory state, when considered “chronic”, is a decisive mechanism in the development of the leaders leading killers: cardiovascular diseases including coagulation, atherosclerosis, metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, and diabetes mellitus. Maintaining a healthy low body fat (visceral) through proper nutrition and a customized supplementation protocol is central to controlling inflammation and optimizing your health.

How do we measure Inflammation and Obesity?

The Lifestyle protocol measures Inflammation through the most Advanced Integrative Testing available while determining each patient’s level of visceral fat (through a Body Mass Index (BMI) analysis) and Body Composition (through a Body Composition (BCA) analysis).

Through Advanced Integrative Testing during your baseline Health Assessment we can test you for:

  • Nutrient Status
  • Hormonal Health
  • Cognitive Health
  • Diabetes / IR
  • Heart Health
  • Inflammation
  • Gut Health
  • Advanced Stool Testing Profiles

Resulting Lifestyle Protocol recommendations are then customized around each patient’s current state, goals and then systematically monitored through additional analysis of the clinical markers that determine your state of Health.

How does the Lifestyle Protocol work? “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” – Hippocrates (400 BC)

Hippocrates said this over two thousand years ago and, yet, it remains the single most important statement made regarding the relationship between your Health and the immense influence you have over staying healthy. Proper Nutrition is in your control and the food you eat combined with appropriate supplements is critical to optimal health and disease prevention. Proper Nutrition plays such a pivotal role in your Health that it is ironic that Food may also be the most addictive and dangerous element you will ever encounter. Implementing the appropriate combination of protein, carbohydrates, and fats with the clinically specific dose of supplements will help reduce inflammation and achieve your health goals through weight-loss. The Lifestyle Protocol is a calorie-restricted nutrition plan that is not designed as a starvation diet but to correct the body’s hormonal response through the proper nutrients and supplementation. Reducing calories and carbohydrates will reduce Insulin production and the corresponding overproduction of Inflammation.

Once we determine your baseline Health Assessment, resulting plan recommendations are then customized, by our Team, based on each patient’s current state, goals, and medical needs. This plan is implemented and systematically monitored by our Team through constant contact as well as additional analysis of the clinical markers that determine your state of Health.
